New training center opened
28.08.2010
On Friday, 28.08.2010, we welcomed around 80 guests to the official opening ceremony of our new training facility. Among the guests was also the prime minister of the state of Thuringia Christine Lieberknecht. She emphasized in her speech the importance to provide good training facilities at a time, when companies here in Thuringia but also in Germany have to deal with shortages in qualified employees.

Prime minister of the state of Thuringia Christine Lieberknecht and Frank Orschler, GM of Königsee Implantate GmbH, watch Max Wagner (trainee in his 2nd year) at his machine.
"Königsee Implantate acts as a role model with its new training facility for other companies in the region - and that without any external financial support." Lieberknecht wished us a lot of success in reaching the goals we set ourselves and left after a thorough visit of the training center and the main production building.
Up to 10 trainees can be educated as chipping mechanics in the new training center. This possibility is also offered to trainees of other companies in the region. For that we provide an experienced instructor team as well as new machines and rooms.
Our focus concerning the content of the traineeship is put on the basic skills, such as grinding, milling, drilling and sawing. These basic skills are often being neglected when looking at todays state of the art machine equipment in most
of the companies. But especially these basic skills are so important in order to get an overall understanding of chipping. "With us, the trainees do not have to spend their time with cleaning or coffee-cooking - here they can concentrate on their education", said Frank Orschler in his welcoming speech. Saying this, he is in line with our overall goal: "In the future the best chipping mechanics should come from the training center Königsee". Achieving this goal is what we will be working on in the new rooms of the training center.
One thing we already achieved: The training possibility in Königsee is now safe and the first trainees have finished their education with outstanding results (both 2nd place in the valuation of the international chamber of commerce). Now we hope that the new training center as well as the long lasting cooperation with a school in Königsee provide the ground to be to say one day: The best chipping mechanics come from the Königsee training center.
International workshop was a full success
20.07.2010
From 14th to 17th of July 2010 we invited our international customers to a workshop in Jena. Current and potential customers world-wide had the chance to get to know and try some of the new Königsee-implants. The list of participants speaks for itself: "Multicultural" was the key-word, because specialists from China, Colombia, Czechia, Great Britain, Estonia, Lithuania and Turkey had the chance to get to know not only our products but also Jena and its surroundings.
The program contained a company visit in Aschau as well as practical and theoretical workshops in Jena. Such an event cannot be successful without a cultural program. Therefore sightseeing in Erfurt, dinner at the top of the Intershop-tower and a visit at the planetarium in Jena were a must. Frank Orschler, general manager, said that the workshop was a full success and announced that further workshops will take place. Events like this one are always a good opportunity to close the gap stretching over continents and oceans.
We are among the TOP 100 companies in Germany for the 6th time !
02.07.2010
Rostock/Warnemünde – The 100 most innovative companies in Germany were acknowledged and awarded last night by Mentor Lothar Späth in 4 categories. Among them is Königsee Implantate as producer of medical products. As one of the few east-German companies Königsee Implantate was able to proof in the application process that the management provides all the room for the employees to realize their innovative ideas.

Representing Königsee Implantate GmbH PR-Manager Antonia Kittelmann received the award from Lothar Späth.
One reason is that we rely also on women. Every second workplace is occupied by a woman. In our development department are currently even more women than men. “To be innovative it always needs a new point of thinking and perspective to find a solution for a problem. Women are often in the situation to have to coordinate a carrier and family, which makes them predestined to optimize processes and that gives them a lot of organizational skills. This way, women often see the practical way much quicker than men”, says general manager, Frank Orschler.
As an implant producer we do not only have to develop very fast, but also organize the distribution to approx. 1500 customers world wide. In front of this background the cooperation with AIESEC [Link] has proven to be very successful: “The contract with our Finnish distributer was basically negotiated with the help from our former intern from Finland. Now we sell our products
to Finland and this former intern is our contact person there because he was offered a job by the same distributer”, Frank Orschler explains further.
Prof. Franke from the University of Vienna and member of the jury showed in his presentation, that almost half of the turnover is being obtained by small- and medium-sized companies. Half of them are among the TOP 100. – For us, a good feeling to belong to them.

Donation of € 1.000,-- handed over to hospice Bad Berka
04.07.2010
On 30th of June the donation was handed over to the Hospice Bad Berka. The total amount of 1.000,- € consists to 50% out of the 20,-€ per employee participating in the Thuringian Company run on 09th of June in Erfurt and to 50% of an additional donation. The cheque was presented by Frank Orschler and Antonia Kittelmann - representing all runners - to the manager of the hospice, Mrs. Evelyn Pohl. The hospice relies to 10% on donations and it plans to use the money for a sitting area in the garden, where the nursing staff as well as the residents are able to retreat. Evelyn Pohl, her staff and the residents are very happy about this gesture and were very grateful for the dedication.
We are happy that our efforts were successful. Now, we are already training again for next year.

Employers run for good cause
Erfurt - 09.06.2010
On 09.06.2010, the thuringian "Company Run" took place for the second time in Erfurt after great success in the last year. Among the 190 starting companies, Königsee Implantate GmbH came to Erfurt with 23 employees for the 5-km-run through the center of the city fighting not only against 2300 competitors but also against 30° sticking temperature.

Michael Riese and Jens Abendroth can be proud. They were the first among the whole Königsee-team.
Frank Orschler, CEO, motivated his employees with a donation of 20 € for every part-taking colleague and announced to donate the total amount to the hospice in Bad Berka (rounded up to 500 €). “Our health is the basis for us to shape our lives according to our wishes. All of us are very lucky that we can move, work and care about our families. Unfortunately this is not always self-evident. In this awareness I am more than happy to see such a big group starting in Erfurt. For once this is good to support the hospice Bad Berka but also for the health and fitness of our employees.” The donation will take place in a few days to the hospice Bad Berka.

Also our current intern from Serbia was eager
to participate and seemed to have real fun.

Silvia Hoffmann and Sabine Bergner shortly in front of the finsh… tired, but happy.
The company participation was initiated by a few colleagues who are enthusiastic about sports and specifically running. Some scepticism remained among the started colleagues, but after the final step over the goal-line was made, all athlets were happy and proud to have overcome the weak side in each one of us to the benefit of the own health but also to the benefit of the team spirit and for the amount of the donation.

Almost the whole team in victory pose after the 5-km-run. Each and every one has won.
For the application next year Königsee Implantate would like to send even more runners.
Girls’ Day 2010 sparks interest for work
Aschau - 28.04.2010
Since 2004 every year Königsee Implantate invites girls from the close school in Königsee to the Girls’ Day. There is a cooperation between the company and the Regelschule Königsee which includes the financial and personnel support of working group called “AG Metall” under the supervision of Matthias Bock who is head in the sample unit at the company as well as the organisation of the Girls’ Day at Köngisee Implantate.
This year 4 girls from class 7 of the school in Königsee visited us and Matthias Bock explained and showed the girls the production process. They could see also the recently finished training facility and were able to colour titanium plates in the surface treatment unit and could laser their names on this plate.
All 4 girls enjoyed this half day with the implants and thanked all employees who spend some time with them in a very nice letter.

Titanium implants – untreated [left], bioactiv [middle], bioinert [right]
Wednesday, 02.12.2009
Aschau. – Together with the Innovent e.V. for technology development Jena and the institute of Materials Science and Technology from the Friedrich-Schiller University Jena we today present the launch of a new step in our production process. Since 2006 the new procedure for the surface treatment of implants has been developed in a common development project and was partly funded by the Thuringian ministry for Economy. Now, we launched the industrial use of this procedure at our production site in Aschau.

Anodic oxidation       © Innovent e. V.
With the new TiOB-procedure titanium implants become anodic oxidised. Through two different processes the implants can specifically be treated with a thinner and a thicker layer. The properties of the two layers are completely different: The thinner, smoother surface impedes the concretion of the bone tissue, while the thicker and rougher surface stimulates the concretion of the cells.
Thus the surgeon is more flexible depending on the purpose of use: Some implants should be prevented from concretion because it is to be removed after some time [TiOB-bioinert].
In other cases - such as spine osteosynthesis - the implant has to remain in the body and the rougher surface stimulates the tissue to enclose the implant
[TiOB-bioactive].
The integration of this procedure into our production is another step in our unbroken chain of development and innovation since 1993. For Königsee Implantate it means that we complete the added value chain here at our production site in Aschau. By establishing this production process here in the Thuringian forest, we can save transport times, the CO2-footprint as well as external costs. The new process flexibility in the interest of our customers is for us a reason to celebrate.
